It seems that the Burmes had no qualms about building a Buddhist monastery about a volcano that is still active. They wanted to touch the sky, go beyond the clouds, and that's why they chose the Mount Popa.

The monastery is called Taungkalat, and finds 1518 meters above sea level. The sanctuary is accessible, despite having to climb 777 steps to reach the top.
