One of the winners of the award Natura In 2012 it was Solidari Sol, awarded € 10,260 for its solar electrification project in Burkina Faso schools. Recently we have received the report of the realization of this project, and we want to share it here with you, also thanking Sol Solidari for his great work.
Fifteen schools located around Ouagadougou (the capital of Burkina Faso) have been directly benefited from the installation of electricity in their classrooms. This means, in principle, a number of students that are around 1,800. But if we take into account that the lighting also allows classes also at night, we can place the number of students benefited in almost 5,000. Each installation consists of a 50W solar plate, a battery, a regulator and 5 low consumption bulbs. The project foresees dissemination activities to publicize the use and advantages of photovoltaic solar energy.
The advantages of making this project are evident from the first moment. The schools have been able to increase the study schedule, which usually ended at 6:00 p.m., and extend it until 9:00 p.m. It has also served to introduce students into renewable energies. Finally, the fact that parents' associations have had to contribute 20% of the amount has made them involved to the fullest with all aspects related to the improvement of the resources of each school.
