Located in the Northeast of India, next to the Brahmaputra River, there is the island of Majuli, a giant sand bank that has become one of the most unique forests in the world having been planted by a single man. Since 1979, the forest worker Jadav Payeg has dedicated his life to the planting of trees on the island, creating a forest that has overcome the extension of the New York Central Park.
The rapid increase in erosion in the last 100 years, has reduced the mass of land of Majuli Island to less than half. Stimulated by the serious situation, Payeg planted trees and thousands of plants, including 300 hectares of bamboo. Payeng's work provides a habitat for many animals in danger of extinction that have returned to the area: a herd of almost 100 elephants, Bengal tigers and a kind of vulture that had not been seen on the island for more than 40 years .
This incredible story reached the ears of filmmaker William Douglas McMaster who decided to tell this wonderful story through the documentary "The Forest Man." The project was financed through Kickstarter. Here you can see one of the videos, don't miss the forest man!
